About Nicola Gaughan

I'm an experienced designer, filmmaker and screenwriter, based in Ealing, west London.

I've worked as a designer since the late 1980s, starting my career on manual design and retraining onto computer design. I've worked for a wide range of clients from different industries and an extensive range of projects.

My father was a photographer and worked in film processing for the BBC, so I've always had a camera of some description. Two of his films are now on the BFI Player.

My uncle was a bomber pilot during World War 2. He and his crew were shot down and are still missing. The more I researched what happened, the more I felt that I needed to make a film about it. the result: What did you do in the war Grandad? recently won Best Documentary in the We Make Films Festival over Summer 2020.

I'm passionate about heritage, history, films and filmmaking and I'm currently studying an MA in Film Practice.

I've written several film screenplays, which have won Best Feature and various other awards in recent film festivals.
